Mosbach Twinners
|
Lymington twinners welcomed thirty-one guests from their German twin town, Mosbach.
On their first full day, the visitors enjoyed a day trip by coach to the Isle of Purbeck. A visit to Durlston Country Park and Castle afforded the novelty of wonderful sea views to the guests, whose home town is in southern Germany and eight hours’ drive from the Channel coast. After picnicking at the top of the cliffs overlooking the sea, the next stop for the visitors was the village of Corfe. While many took a short walk up to Corfe Common for good views of the castle, others lazed around the village’s tea shops and pubs. On their return in the evening, many of the visitors and their hosts met up at the Walhampton Arms for supper.
Next day both hosts and guests were introduced to the work of the Forestry Commission volunteer rangers by Les Clements, who led a delightful and informative walk in Bolderwood and answered many questions about the woods and the animals living there. The rest of the day was filled with activities planned by each host.
On the Saturday, Lymington Market was a popular destination, while other hosts took their guests across the Solent to the Old Gaffers Festival at Yarmouth.
In the evening everyone met up at Boldre Hall for a buffet supper catered by Rosie Lea’s of Brockenhurst. Mayor Michael White and his Mayoress and wife Sue attended and the Mayor welcomed the visitors to the town. During the evening both guests and hosts let their hair down with some horse racing. The ‘jockeys’ had to reel in wooden horses on long strings while their friends cheered them on.
The last day of the visit came all too quickly, and the assembled hosts waved goodbye as their guests headed on a visit to Hampton Court Palace on their way back to Heathrow.
